The jury deliberated for approximately 10 minutes on April 7 before finding Cody Dale Davis guilty of one count of aggravated malicious wounding, in connection with the Feb. 2, 2021 assault, the Commonwealth's attorney Amy Ashworth announced.

Responders dispatched to a home in Dumfries found the victim inside, laying in a pool of blood suffering facial lacerations and blunt force trauma to her eyes, Ashworth said. Davis and three children were also found inside.

The victim was taken to the Fairfax Inova Trauma Center where she underwent immediate surgical procedures. Davis' attack was "unprovoked and savage," Ashworth said, and caused the victim to sustain facial fractures including a nasal fracture and fracture to her orbital socket.

While the victim was defenseless and unsuspecting, Davis continued to claw and gouge the victim’s eyes, authorities said. He left the home only only to return and continue his brutal attack upon the victim, ripping flesh from the their body and engaged in a second prolonged attack whereby he clawed and gouged the victim’s eyes once more.

Medical experts testified about the devastating injuries suffered by the victim, who suffered permanent blindness as a result of the attack.

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 21. The victim and members of her family will present Victim Impact testimony regarding the Defendant’s attack. The Defendant faces a maximum term of imprisonment of life in prison and a fine of not more than $100,000.

The matter was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Dircia D. Schubert and Deputy Chief of Staff Kevin L. Leahy.
